Rams Finish Sweep In Style
MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team swept Saturday's double header with Loyola by taking game 2, 12-1 in a 10-run rule shortened game.
The Rams (3-0) have now scored 36 runs in 3 games on the season. On the mound, Justin Bracewell (1-0) dominated with 5 innings of 1-run ball, while striking out 6 and his teammates gave him plenty of run support.
Things got started off right for Mobile, as Kevin Orso skied a 3-run inside-the-park homerun to right field. The right fielder could not get to the ball before it landed, and the ball got stuck deep in the ground, while the fielder begged the umps for a ground-rule double to no avail.
From there, the Rams added 3 runs in the 2nd, 1 in the 3rd and 4 more in the 4th to put the game away. David Cramblitt collected 4 hits for Mobile, while Nelson Curry, Stephen Stork, Orso, Jared Baria and Brad Sheffield all collected 2 hits.
Mobile next plays at home Tuesday, February 5th against Auburn Montgomery. The double header begins at 12:00.
Game 1:
Rams Rally For Walk-Off Win
MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile was 1 out away from dropping a heart-breaker to the visiting Wolfpack, but Kevin Orso and Jared Baria delivered 2-out heroics to give the Rams a 8-7 victory in the 7-inning game.
A half inning after Brian Mason delivered a 3-run bomb to put Loyola ahead 7-6, the Rams bounced back.
Stephen Stork drew a 1-out walk in the bottom of the 7th, and after a pop-out, the 2-out rally began. Kevin Orso drilled a run-scoring double down the left-field line, and two pitches later, Baria looped a single to right to score a hustling Orso from 2nd.
The rally turned Nelson Curry (1-0) into a winner, after he gave up the 3-run dinger to Mason.
Just like in Friday’s opener, the Wolfpack jumped out on top with 1 run in the 1st, but Mobile answered with a pair thanks to a sac fly from Brett Barber and another RBI double from Orso.
Loyola again went ahead with a pair of runs in the 3rd, but Mobile answered with a 4-spot in the bottom half of the 4th, thanks to RBI singles from Carlos Romero and Daniel Harper, and a timely double-steal to allow Baria to swipe home.
Nelson Curry, Orso and Baria collected 2 hits apiece for the Rams, while Orso led the way with a pair of RBIs. Mason had a banner day for Loyola, going 3-for-5 with 5 RBIs and the big homer to left. Kit Powell started the day on the mound for the Rams and went 6 innings with 6 strikeouts.
