Rams Drop Pair to AUM MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team fell to 3-2 on the season, as the Senators completed the double-header sweep at Ram Field, with the finale coming in the form of a 7-5 come-back victory. Game 2 started off looking like a pitcher's duel, with the score sitting at 2-1 in favor of the Rams through 5 innings of play. But, just like in the opener, the Senators came through in the 6th inning, this time with some help from the Mobile defense. In that fateful half on an inning, the Rams committed 2 errors in the first 3 at-bats to put a pair of Senator runners on with 1 out. After a single loaded the bases, Stephen Partrick and Shane Moye went back-to-back with a double and a triple to drive in 4 and put AUM on top. The Senators went on to add 2 more runs to take a 7-2 lead. The Rams attempted a comeback in their half of the inning with the first four batters singling. Jared Baria's 2-out 2-run single capped a 3-run frame that brought the Rams within 2. But, Allen Ponder was able to finish off the 7th and final inning. Baria had given the Rams the 2-1 lead when he scored on a wild pitch, but the Mobile defense opened the flood gates. Wade Skinner picked up the win for the Senators, while Justin Bracewell was tagged with the loss for Mobile. The Rams were led at the plate by Daine Solomon who went 2-for-3, and Baria, who finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Chase Burch, Cody Shields, Davis Lambert and Partick led the Senators with 2 hits apiece. Mobile (3-2) next plays Saturday, February 9th at home against William Carey. The double header starts at 12:00. Game 1: MOBILE, Ala—The 16th-ranked Auburn-Montgomery Senators handed the University of Mobile baseball team its first loss of the season, 4-3, Tuesday in the opening game of the double header. The Senators move to 3-0 on the young season, while Mobile drops to 3-1 thanks to some late-inning heroics by the AUM bats. AUM struck first in the game, when first baseman Allen Ponder delivered a mammoth solo homer into the woods in left field in the top of the 2nd. But, the lead was short-lived, as Mobile’s leading power hitter Kevin Orso led off the bottom half of the inning with a solo shot to center. From there, Mobile produced 4 singles in the inning to tally 2 more runs, as Carlos Romero singled home a run, and David Cramblitt scored on a fielder’s choice groundout by Daniel Harper. After cutting the Mobile lead to 3-2 in the top of the 3rd, Auburn-Montgomery went to work in the top of the 6th. Following a quick out, Chase Burch and Ponder hit back-to-back doubles to tie the game, and then Cody Shields blooped a 2-out run-scoring single to center field to score pinch-runner Matt Dunaway. Brock Piper, Ridgley Plaines and Trey Haisten combined to shut the door on the Rams, with Haisten picking up the save. Piper got the win for AUM. Ponder, Shields and David Barnett finished with 2 hits apiece, with Ponder driving in a pair. Orso, Jared Baria and Cramblitt each went 2-for-3 for the Rams.
