Jacobs One Win Away From 500 As UM Defeats 18th-ranked AUM 7-2

MOBILE, Ala. -- Riding the strong left arm of junior Simon Badeaux, UM (4-1) held AUM scoreless through six innings while jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third en route to a 7-2 win over the 18th-ranked Senators (2-8). The win moves Rams Head Coach Mike Jacobs to within one win of capturing his 500th.

Picking up a quick run in the bottom of the first off of a Bryan Mosley (2-for-5) RBI, it was the junior second baseman from Daphne who struck again in the bottom of the third with a two RBI single to give UM a commanding 4-0 lead.

On the other side of the score sheet, it was Mobile’s Simon Badeaux who pitched a strong six innings, surrendering only two hits with no runs while fanning two batters.

While AUM would pick up runs in the seventh and eighth innings, UM would respond with a three-run bottom of the eighth.

It was a tough outing for the Senators as four pitchers, including starter Justin Barrett, combined to allow seven runs on nine hits.

Badeaux picked up the win for the Rams while sophomore Jon Kalb secured the victory for UM, picking up the save.

Mobile will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 12, at home against Lambuth University. The double-header is set to begin at 12 noon.
