Rams Out-Hit Stillman

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team improved to 7-2 on the season by racking up 19 hits on their way to a 13-10 victory over visiting Stillman College Wednesday.

The Rams got multi-hit games from six players and got 4 innings of 1-run relief work from Zack Mann on their way to the victory.

The Tigers struck first when Graham Wright followed a walk, hit-batsman and a single with a 2-run double. The score stayed that way for 2.5 innings, but then Mobile finally broke through and scored 2 in the 3rd and 4 in the 4th to take a 6-3 lead.

After a Stephen Stork RBI double and a Jared Baria sac fly brought the Rams within 1 run in the 3rd, the rest of the Rams started hitting. Daine Solomon started off the 4th with a solo homer, and then Stork and Baria capped the inning with back-to-back doubles to score 3 more.

Stillman kept fighting and chased starter Matt Brown with 3 runs in the 5th, and then plated an unearned run in the 6th to take the 7-6 lead. But, the Rams answered with 7 runs over the 6th, 7th and 8th innings.

The Rams retook the lead with 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th when Kevin Orso smacked a 2-run inside-the-park homerun to deep centerfield to go up 7-6. Mobile added 4 insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th when 6 of the first 7 batters recorded hits.

Stillman plated 3 in the 9th and brought the tying run to the plate with 2 outs, but Ira Turner got out of the inning to preserve the win.

Stork and Solomon recorded 4 hits apiece, Orso finished with 3 hits, and Carlos Romero, Baria and Nelson Curry each added 2 hits. Mann (2-0) picked up the win with his 4 innings of relief work.

Mobile moves to 7-2 and next plays at Belhaven College Friday and Saturday. The two teams will play a single game Friday night at 6, and then finish with a double header Saturday.
