UM Baseball Splits With Faulkner

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team split Tuesday's home double header with Faulkner University, taking game 1 9-8 in extra innings, and falling 5-3 in the finale.

Game 1 saw the Rams use some late-inning magic after the Eagles rallied for 5 runs over the final two innings to force extra frames.

The Rams sent 8 batters to the plate in the bottom of the 2nd inning and put up a 5-spot thanks to a 2-run single from Daine Solomon and a 2-run bomb to left off the bat of David Cramblitt.

The two teams traded runs on the way to a Mobile 6-3 lead after 5 innings, and then the late-inning madness ensued. The Eagles struck for 3 runs in the top of the 6th off the Mobile bullpen, as John Gober ripped a 2-run double and Winston Stone tied the game at 6-6 with a sac fly.

But, the Rams fought right back with Jared Baria and Carlos Romero singling home runs to send the Rams into the final frame up 8-6. After a wild pitch and a Gober hit tied the game in the top of the 7th to force extras, Daniel Harper came through for the Rams in the bottom of the 8th by blooping a single down the right field line to score Jared Baria for the 9-8 win.

Ira Turner (2-0) got the win with an 1.1 innings of scoreless relief work for the Rams. Solomon went 4-for-5 at the plate with 3 runs scored, Cramblitt finished 2-for-3 with the homer and 3 RBI, and Jared Baria had a 3-for-5 day for his 9th multi-hit game of the season.

Faulkner Uses Long Ball To Take Finale....

Game 2 was more of a low-scoring affair which saw a tie ball game after 3 innings thanks to back-to-back-to-back RBI hits from Nelson Curry, TJ Esfeller and David Cramblitt in the 3rd.

That's the way things stayed until the Eagles used some leadoff magic late. Winston Stone smacked a leadoff homer in the 5th, and then Jonathan Cagle did likewise 1 inning later to take the ball game 5-3. Ryan Chase got the win for Faulkner by going 6 innings and holding the Rams' bats to only 5 hits.

Esfeller led Mobile at the plate with a 2-for-3 day. Stone led Faulkner with a 3-for-3 day, driving in 2 and scoring 2.

Mobile (11-3, 9-0) hosts Spring Hill College for a 3-game set this weekend. The teams will play one game Friday, February 22nd at 2:00 and then finish with a noon double header on Saturday.
