Baseball Sweeps Double-Header With 24th-Ranked Faulkner University
MOBILE,
Ala. – The University of Mobile baseball team (7-14) will take on conference-leading
William Carey College riding a seven-game winning after today’s double-header
sweep of 24th-ranked Faulkner University. The Rams exploded
with a ten-run bottom of the sixth inning to win the first game 12-2
and then came back to win 3-1 in the night cap.
With
the score tied 2-2, bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the
sixth, Faulkner centerfielder Brent Cleveland lost a deep shot by UM’s
Paul Kerger in the sun. Three runs were immediately scored and the
Rams went on to score seven more en route to winning in a mercy-ruled
six innings.
Ricardo
Rolle (2-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored), Jud McWain (2-for-3
with a home run and two RBIs), and Josh Banashak (2-for-3 with two
runs scored and an RBI) helped lead the Rams to the first game win.
Leland
Howard picked up the win, surrendering only two hits and one earned
run in six innings of work.
In the
nightcap the Rams snapped a 1-1 tie on a Ricardo Rolle RBI single that
scored Tim Watson. Jud McWain doubled to bring in Seth Naugle and Mobile
pitcher Jarred Stubbs went three up and three down in the top of the
seventh to secure the win.
Stubbs
pitched a complete game, giving up three hits and one earned run while
striking out five in seven innings.
The
Rams hit the road for Hattiesburg, Miss. as they take on conference
leader, William Carey College, for a weekend three-game series starting
Friday at 6 p.m.
