HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- University of Mobile starter Simon Badeaux allowed two first inning runs and then held William Carey to just three hits over the final eight innings, as the Rams knocked off the William Carey College Crusaders 9-2 Friday night in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play.

Mobile (23-6, 10-3) got on the board in the top of the first inning, scoring three runs off Carey (14-11, 6-7) starter Kyle Keeton. The Crusaders responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning.

The Rams added runs in the third and seventh innings but the Crusaders could not push across any runs against Badeux.

The Rams broke Carey’s back in the top of the ninth inning by scoring four runs to finish off the Crusaders.

Carey starter Kyle Keeton (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season. Keeton gave up eight hits and five runs in six innings.

The Crusaders and Rams resume their three game series Saturday.  The first game of the doubleheader is set for 1:00 p.m. in Hattiesburg.
