Men's baseball sweeps cross-town rival Spring Hill College

MOBILE, Ala. -- The University of Mobile capped a three-game sweep of their cross-town rival Spring Hill College with a 13-3 victory in game two a doubleheader played Saturday afternoon on the University of Mobile campus in Mobile, Ala.

Mobile won the first game of the day 3-2 and also on Friday night with a 6-3 come-from-behind victory in a game played at Hank Aaron Stadium.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning of the third game, Mobile erupted for five runs in the bottom half of the inning highlighted by Jud McWain’s three-run homer.  The Rams would tack on four more in the second and third innings consecutively to take a commanding 13-2 lead. 

Starting pitcher Leland Howard picked up the win going five innings in the mercy-ruled shortened game.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Danny Arroyo pitched seven innings allowing just two runs on six hits in picking up his second victory of the season.

The Rams scored all three of their runs in the second inning and held off a top of the seventh inning Badger rally that saw them pull to within one run after trailing 3-1.

Mobile improves to 11-18 on the season and more importantly 7-8 in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action.  The Rams return to action next weekend when they host Loyola University.
