Mobile Moves to 20-1 in Conference Play
Westwego, La..-- The 8th-ranked University of Mobile baseball team improved to 20-1 in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action by sweeping Saturday's double header from Loyola University Saturday afternoon.
The Rams took the opener 9-1 and then finished the sweep by pounding out 19 hits on their way to an 11-4 win in the finale.
In the opener, Kit Powell (4-1) scattered 6 hits over 6 innings and struck out 4 to pick up the victory, while the Mobile offense produced 13 hits, including 6 extra-base knocks.
David Cramblitt and Daine Solomon each produced 3 hits, Jared Baria smacked a pair of doubles and the duo of Carlos Romero and Matthew Sparks each homered and drove in 4 and 3 runs, respectively.
To take the final game, Justin Bracewell (7-1) limited the Wolfpack to only 5 hits and 1 run through 5 innings of play, and the Rams used that time to build an imposing 11-1 lead.
Nelson Curry sparked the lineup by going 3-for-6 with a pair of steals at the top of the order, and even the bottom of the order contributed, as 7-hole hitter Daniel Harper went 2-for-3 with a homer and 3 runs scored, and 8th-hole hitter T.J. Esfeller produced a 3-for-5 afternoon. David Cramblitt cranked his 11th homer of the season and Jared Baria extended his current hitting streak to 15 games with a 4-for-6 performance.
Mobile (26-7, 20-1) plays at Auburn-Montgomery Wednesday, March 26th at 4:00 pm.
Game 1:
Westwego, La..-- 8th-ranked Mobile scored five runs in the third inning en route to a 10-3 victory over Gulf Coast Athletic Conference foe Loyola Friday night at Segnette Field.
Mobile starter Jesse Luker (6-1) went 5.2 innings to pick up the victory. The southpaw gave up three runs on three hits and struck out four.
At the plate, the Rams had 15 hits against Loyola pitching. Stephen Stork and David Cramblitt each had three hits.
For Loyola, starter Andrew Laiche (2-6) was tagged with the loss. The right hander went 5.1 innings and gave up seven runs, six earned and struck out two.
Mobile improved to 24-7 and 18-1 in the GCAC, while Loyola fell to 10-21 and 6-16 in the GCAC.
The series concludes with a double header on Saturday at Segnette Field with first pitch in game one slated for 1 p.m.
