Rams drop one run decision to Mount Mercy College

MOBILE, Ala. -- The University of Mobile baseball team (23-11) dropped their fifth consecutive game falling 4-3 to visiting Mount Mercy College Friday afternoon at home.  With the loss, the Rams fall to 23-11 on the season.

Mount Mercy jumped on Mobile starting pitcher Simon Badeaux by scoring three runs in the top of the second inning to take an early 3-0 lead.  Paul Van Anne singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second on Ryan Miller's single. After Jader Perez was hit by a pitch to load the bases with nobody out; Chris Guerra singled scoring Van Anne from third base and Miller from second.  Guerra then stole second and later scored on Scott Mohr's RBI single.

Still trailing 3-0 entering the bottom half of the seventh inning, the Rams finally got on the board.  Brian Mosley singled to open the inning and scored on Nate Thomas' RBI double.  Thomas would lead the Rams in the game by going 2-for-4 from the plate with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.  After a J.C. Santana (2-for-4, RBI) single advanced Thomas to third base, Thomas would score when Justin Rosen hit into a fielders choice cutting the lead to 3-2.

Mount Mercy would add another run back in the top of eighth inning to go back ahead by two runs at 4-2, but the Rams would respond in the bottom of the eighth inning.

With one out and nobody on base, shortstop, Eddie Davila drew a walk and advanced to second on Lance Howard's single.  After Mosley popped up to 2b giving the Rams two outs in the inning, Thomas picked up his second hit of the game with a single loading the bases up with two outs.

Now trailing 4-2 with two outs and the bases loaded, Santana singled to right field scoring Davila and cutting the lead to 4-3.  However, pinch runner T.J. Esfeller was unable to score from second base on the play when he was thrown out at the plate trying to score ending the Rams threat.

Starting pitcher Simon Badeaux (8-2), picks up just his second loss of the season after going seven and a third innings pitched, allowing 11 hits, four earned runs and striking out six.

Mobile will look to break their losing streak tomorrow afternoon when they host Thomas University in a scheduled seven-inning doublheader beginning at 12 p.m.
