Mobile ends streak
with 6-2 win over Thomas University
MOBILE, Ala. -- The University of Mobile baseball team
(24-11) ended their five game losing streak by defeating Thomas University
6-2 Saturday afternoon at home in Mobile.
The second game, which was tied at 7-7 in the bottom
of the third inning, was cancelled due to rain and lightning.
In the opener, Mobile got on the board first as they
scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. After
Carnell Parker (1-for-3, 2 runs, 3 SB) opened the inning by reaching
base on an error, Lance Howard walked to put runners at first and second
base
with only one
out. Brian Mosley flied out to center field for the second out
of the inning and Nate Thomas (2-for-4, 2 runs) singled to right field
loading the bases with two outs. Shortstop Eddie Davila then
quickly empted the bases with a three RBI double as the Rams took
the
early lead. Davila
finished the game going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.
Thomas answered with two runs of their own in the top
of the fourth inning but Mobile came back with another run in the bottom
of the fifth and two more in the bottom of the sixth to hold on for
the 6-2 win.
Leland Howard (1-1) got his first victory of the season
for Mobile going 5.2 innings and allowing just two earned runs on
five base hits
while
striking
out
three.
In the second game, Mobile fell behind 6-0 in the top
of the second inning but rallied for seven runs in the bottom half
of the second inning to take a 7-6 lead. Thomas added one run
back in the top of the third inning to tie the game at 7-7 and the
game
was
officially cancelled in the bottom of the third inning as a result
of rain and lighting. The game will not count and will not be
made up.
Mobile will continue play next Tuesday, March 29 when
they travel to Pensacola, Fla., to face the University of West Florida
at 1 p.m. in the first of 13 straight road contests.
