Rams Earn Split With Belhaven College
MOBILE, Ala-- The weather limited the 6th-ranked University of Mobile and 25th-ranked Belhaven College to only one game Saturday, and the Rams took that game 4-3 to earn a split in the 2-game series.
The Rams started the game with single tallies over the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead. Kevin Orso smacked a sac fly in the first, Matthew Sparks produced a RBI groundout in the second, and David Cramblitt forced in a run when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Belhaven, which hit 4 homers Friday, went back to the long ball to tie the game as homers from Brent Hudson and Bryan Bennett to tie the game at 3-3 heading into the bottom of the 5th. Jared Baria had a 21-game hitting streak end Friday, but the junior played the role of hero Saturday, smacking a solo homer in the 5th for the winning tally.
Kit Powell picked up the win, allowing 3 runs through 5 innings of work, and Andalusia native Justin Bracewell picked up his 1st save of the year, with 4 innings of 1-hit baseball.
Kevin Orso reached bases 3 times and drove in a run, Baria had a solo homer, and Daine Solomon finished 1-for-3. The Rams move to 32-9 on the year and 24-2 in conference. Belhaven falls to 30-12 and 17-9.
Mobile plays at Stillman College on April 8th.

Blazers Power Past Rams
MOBILE, Ala-- The 6th-ranked University of Mobile baseball team lost only its second Gulf Coast Athletic Conference game of the season Friday, as visiting 25th-ranked Belhaven blasted 4 home runs en route to an 11-5 victory.
Hunter Robinson started the fireworks with a 2-out, solo blast in the 2nd inning, then Bryan Bennett and Charlie Edwards went back-to-back in the 3rd as the Blazers built a 5-0 lead through 5 innings behind the pitching of Brian Legnon. Legnon picked up the win by going 6.2 innings and allowing only 2 earned runs on 7 hits.
Kevin Orso blased two homers in the 6th and 8th innings as the Rams plated 5 runs over the final four frames to make a run. But, with clinging to a 7-4 lead, the Blazers put the game away with 4 runs in the top of the 9th. Robinson and Shawn Anderson produced 2-run singles in the inning.
Kyle Medley picked up the save with 1.1 innings of work, while Jesse Luker took the loss after allowing 7 runs in 6.1 innings of work.
Orso finished 2-for-3 with the 2 homers, and Nelson Curry went 2-for-5 with 1 RBI. Jared Baria was 0-for-5 and saw his 21-game hitting streak come to an end.
For Belhaven, Shawn Anderson went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI, Bryan Bennett went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and Hunter Robinson finished 2-for-5 with 3 RBI.
