Badeaux shuts down Loyola, 8-1

New Orleans, La.- Simon Badeaux threw a complete game and struck out six as Mobile defeated Loyola 8-1 Friday night at Segnette Field.

The Rams capitalized on six Wolfpack errors including two in the first inning. Carnell Parker led off the inning with a single and stole second. Later, Parker stole third and scored on an errant throw by Loyola catcher Brad Rodrigue. With two outs, Lance Howard doubled and scored on a single by Nate Thomas to give the Rams a 2-0 lead.

Mobile (27-14, 14-8) extended the advantage in the third as the Rams scored three runs on three Wolfpack errors to make the score 5-0. UM added a run in the fourth, sixth, and eighth innings to complete the scoring for the game.

Badeaux (10-2) gave up one run on six hits and walked two for the win. He pitched out of trouble twice in early innings.

With two outs in the bottom of the first, Loyola’s Daivd Lauricella was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a single by Kevin Kalina. Badeaux then retired Marc Jaynes on a fly ball to center field to end the threat.

In the third, Bryan McCaulley doubled with two outs and advanced to third on a wild pitch. The Mobile left hander then struck out Lauricella to end the inning.

Bryan Mosley led the Rams at the plate. He was 3 for 4 with a run scored and a RBI. Parker was 2 for 5 with two runs scored and four stolen bases.

David Musch (0-2) got the loss for the Wolfpack (17-21, 9-10). He surrendered six runs on seven hits and struck out six.

McCaulley and Brian Mason each had two hits for Loyola. Jaynes hit a solo home run to lead off the seventh inning for the lone Loyola run of the game. It was his second home run of the season.

The series concludes with a double header on Saturday at Segnette Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
