Rams Score 16; Sweep Stillman

TUSCALOOSA, Ala-- The 6th-ranked University of Mobile baseball team stepped out of conference Tuesday afternoon and picked up two more victories by defeating Stillman College 6-3 and 10-7 in a pair of 7 inning ball games.

Game 1: Mobile 6 - Stillman 3

The opener found the Rams down 3-2 after 5, but the Rams responded with 4 runs in the top of the 6th to pick up the victory and back the pitching of Zack Mann and Ira Turner.

Mann (6-1) picked up the victory by scattering 8 hits over 6.1 innings and allowing 3 earned runs. Ira Turner came in with the bases loaded and only 1 out, and got a strikeout and pop out to pick up his 4th save of the year.

David Holcombe hit a 2-run homer and Casey Orr tripled in the 5th to give Stillman the 3-2 lead. The Rams then sent 9 batters to the plate in the 6th and collected 5 hits to tally 4 runs and take the ball game. Jared Baria tripled and scored on a sac fly to lead off the frame and then Brett Barber, TJ Esfeller and Nelson Curry provided run-scoring hits in the inning.

Nelson Curry finished 3-for-4, Jared Baria finished 2-for-4, and Brett Barber finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

Game 2: Mobile 10 - Stillman 7

In the finale, the Rams overcame a 6-spot in the 1st by Stillman by pounding out 15 hits to score 10 runs in the victory.

Mobile scored first when Nelson Curry tripled and scored in the 1st, but Stillman batted around in the bottom half of the frame, chasing Mobile starter Matt Brown and taking a 6-1 lead. The Rams responded with 5 runs in the 2nd to tie the game and then single tallies over the next two innings to pick up the victory.

After the Rams loaded the bases with only 1 out, Nelson Curry and Jared Baria came through with 2-run singles and Daine Solomon later capped the scoring with a RBI hit up the middle as Mobile batted around.

The winning tally came in the 4th inning when Daniel Harper produced a 2-out, RBI single to plate Jared Baria. Derek Bourgeois, Ira Turner and Scott Mitchell finished the game by combining for 5 innings of 1-run relief.

Nelson Curry picked up the win with 1.2 innings of relief, fanning 4 and allowing 0 earned runs. Mitchell picked up his 7th save of the season with a scoreless 7th. Nelson Curry finished 3-for-5 with 3 RBI, Jared Baria went 4-for-4 with 2 RBI and David Cramblitt finished 3-for-3 for the Rams.

Mobile returns to GCAC action this weekend with a 3-game series at Spring Hill College. The teams begin the series with a 6:00 game on Friday.
