Rams Fall at Faulkner University

MONTGOMERY, Ala-- On the heels of a 3-game sweep of rival Spring Hill College, the Mobile baseball team traveled to Faulkner University and dropped a 6-2 decision.

The Rams took the early lead thanks to a leadoff home run from Carlos Romero in the top of the 2nd inning.

The Eagles struck back with some 2 out damage in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 2-1 lead. After Kyle McPherson induced two quick groundouts to short, he walked Austin Adams, after a couple of borderline pitches didn't go his way. Then, Winston Stone stepped up and went opposite field for a 2-run bomb.

Faulkner pushed the lead to 3 runs with 2 more in the 6th, thanks to some shaky Rams' defense. A lead off error and single started the frame, and then Jonathan Gober blooped a RBI double over first base, and a passed ball brought home Erik Lindley. Daine Solomon prevented further damage when he gunned down Gober at the plate on a 9-2 double play.

The Rams had a runner in every inning but the first and still had only Romero's solo homer to show. The wasted opportunities caught up to them, as the Eagles tacked on 2 more runs in the 8th to take the 6-1 lead. TJ Santos provided a RBI double and later scored himself on another Rams error on a dropped pickoff attempt. Mobile tacked on a run in the final inning when Jared Baria led off with a walk and came around to score thanks to 3 wild pitches.

Kyle McPherson started for the Rams and finished with 3 innings of work, 2 runs and 2 strikeouts. Johan Sanchez went 3 innings with 1 earned run and 1 K in relief. Joey Mooney and Zack Mann finished the game out of the pen. Mobile moves to 22-24 on the year with a 3-game series at Belhaven starting Friday at 6:00.
