Rams Demolish Bulldogs
MOBILE, Ala-- The 6th-ranked UM baseball team polished off a 3-game sweep of visiting Tougaloo College with a 19-1, 7-inning victory to send the UM seniors off in style.
The Rams pounded out 20 hits and scored 16 runs over the first 3 innings of play to take a 16-1 lead and cruise.
The seniors who appeared in the game all contributed for the Rams. Daniel Harper went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI, Brett Barber finished 3-for-5 with 3 RBI, Daine Solomon finished 1-for-2 with 2 RBI, TJ Esfeller finished 2-for-3 with 5 RBI and a grand slam, and Zack Mann went 1-for-1 at the plate.
Senior starter Kit Powell went 5 innings and struck out 6 to pick up the victory. Stephen Stork went 2-for-3 at the plate, Jared Baria finished 3-for-3, and Carlos Romero finished 3-for-4 with 2 RBI.
Mobile (39-10, 29-3) next plays at LSU-Shreveport next weekend to close out the regular season.
Day One: Pair of Victories
The 6th-ranked University of Mobile baseball team wrapped up the Regular Season Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championship by run-ruling visiting Tougaloo 11-1 in game one Friday, before polishing off a double header sweep with an 18-1 run-rule victory in the finale.
Tougaloo actually struck first in the opener as Anthony Triplett beat out an infield hit and swiped to bags to manufacture a run.
After going down 1-2-3 in the 1st, the Rams then scored 11 runs over the next 4 innings to pick up the easy victory. Kevin Orso homered in the 2nd and then Stephen Stork singled home Jared Baria to provide the winning margin.
Nelson Curry went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, Baria finished 2-for-3 with 3 RBI, Brett Barber finished 3-for-3 with 2 RBI, Kevin Orso went 1-for-2 with 3 runs scored and the homer and Daine Solomon drove in a pair.
Jesse Luker (9-2) allowed only 3 hits over 5 innings to pick up his 23rd career victory at Mobile to move into a tie for 1st-place all-time at the school.
Game two was all about the 3rd inning as the Rams sent 16 batters to the plate to tally 13 runs in the route. Mobile pounded out 12 hits in the inning and 8 batters reached base after there were 2 outs. Cliff Downey and Daniel Harper hit 2-run homers in the frame.
Daniel Harper went 4-for-4 with 5 RBI, Carlos Romero went 3-for-4 with 4 runs scored, Daine Solomon went 2-for-3, Kevin Orso went 1-for-2 with 3 RBI, Derek Bourgeois went 2-for-3 with a 2-run homer and Jared Baria finished with 2 hits and 2 RBIs.
Justin Bracewell (10-1) picked up the win by fanning 5 over 5 innings. The Rams (38-10, 28-3) finish the series at home Saturday at 1:00 when the team's seniors will be honored. |
