Rams Take Game 1 Saturday

MOBILE, Ala—One day after coasting to a 12-1 victory over visiting Loyola University Friday, the Rams won a pitchers’ duel 3-2 in Game 1 of Saturday’s double header.

The Rams’ Ross Black and Justin Bracewell got the better of Loyola’s Stephen Ratasky in the game. Black went 6 innings, stranded 10 runners, and held the Wolfpack to 2 runs, while Bracewell came on to finish the 7th inning for the save. Ratasky surrendered 3 runs on 7 hits through 6 innings of work.

Mobile took an early 2-0 lead in the 1st inning to give it’s pitchers some room to work. Milton Roque and Jared Baria opened with back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners. Brett Barber delivered a sacrifice fly to the outfield, and 2 batters later Daine Solomon produced a 2-out RBI single for the 2-0 lead.

After Mobile tacked on another run with a sac fly in the bottom of the 5th, Brian Mason made it a ball game again with 1 swing of the bat in the 7th. Mason blasted a 2-run homer over the scoreboard in left field to chase Black. But, a nice 6-4-3 double play ended the ball game to give the Rams the victory.

Rams Bats Come Alive in Trouncing

MOBILE, Ala— After scoring only 4 runs total in their previous 3-game conference series, the University of Mobile baseball team pounded out 15 hits in a 12-1 victory over visiting Loyola University Friday afternoon.

After plating 2 runs in the bottom of the first thanks in large part to doubles from Jared Baria and Brett Barber, the Rams’ offense erupted for eight 2-out tallies in the 4th inning to put the game away.

With 2 runners on and 2 outs in the frame, the Rams strung together 7 straight hits before the final out was recorded. After 5 consecutive run-scoring singles, Carlos Romero belted a 3-run home run to right field to cap the scoring.

Six Rams produced mult-hit efforts on the day, and 4 of them produced multiple RBIs. Milton Roque and Baria finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs apiece, while Romero went 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs. Brett Barber and Kyle McPherson each tallied 3 hits in the game.

Briggs Bishop went 6 innings, scattering 9 hits and fanning 2 to pick up the victory for the now 23-27 Rams. The 2 teams will finish the series with a 1:00 double header Saturday.

Since the series is the last home stand of the season, the Rams will honor their seniors on Saturday. The Rams will travel to LSU-Shreveport on the last weekend of April to finish out the regular season, and then co-host the GCAC tournament with Spring Hill College May 2-5.
