Belhaven wins game one
JACKSON, Miss. -- The Belhaven College Blazers (29-20, 12-13) scored
13 runs in the first two innings of Friday's game with the University
of Mobile, en route to a 14-3 mercy-ruled victory.
The Blazers grabbed
an early 4-0 lead in the 1st inning, thanks in large part to Scott
Ewing's three-run triple to the gap in right-center. Belhaven blew
the game wide-open with a nine-spot in the bottom of the 2nd, capped by Ricky
Owens' towering grand-slam homerun to left-centerfield. In total, the Blazers
garnered 13 hits to accompany the 13 runs scored in the first two innings.
Ricky
Breazeale hit his ninth homer of the season, a solo shot in the third
inning, completing the scoring for the Blazers in the game.
Daniel Hearn
(6-5) got the win, allowing two earned runs on seven hits in six
innings of work. Hearn walked two batters and struck out four. Kyle
Buescher
pitched a scoreless 7th in relief.
Scott Ewing and Craig Smith led the
Blazers at the plate, each going 3-for-4. Ewing collected three RBI
and scored a run, while Smith scored
two runs.
