Rams split with Belhaven
JACKSON, Miss. -- The University of Mobile Rams (31-20, 15-12) split
a Saturday aftenoon doubleheader with the Belhaven College Blazers
(30-21, 13-14) losing the first game 4-3 but coming back with a 17-1
pounding of Belhaven in the series finale to avoid their second consecutive
weekend sweep.
In game one, Ricky Owens' single through the hole at
second base allowed David Gilbert to motor home from second base
to score the
winning run in the bottom of the 7th, giving the Blazers a 4-3
victory in.
Owens finished the game 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Ricky
Breazeale got the Blazers on the board with a two-run opposite field
homerun in the bottom of the first. It was his team-leading
10th homerun of the season.
After Mobile went ahead 3-2 in the
top of the 4th, Chase Coley tied the game at 3-3 when he came home
to score on a wild pitch
in the
bottom half of the inning.
Chris Norris (4-2) got the win,
allowing two hits in 2.1 innings of relief. He struck out three batters.
Larkin Braxton, who started for the Blazers, allowed three runs on
three hits in four innings of work. Braxton walked
four and
struck
out two.
In game two, The Blazers grabbed a short-lived
1-0 lead in the second game on a Ricky Owens' RBI double. However,
the Rams would erupt for
16 runs in the next two innings to blow open the game. Belhaven would
not be able to recover, managing only four hits in the game.
Mobile
improves to 33-20 and 15-12 in conference with the win. The Rams
