Rams
split doubleheader with William Carey
MOBILE,
Ala. -- Ricky Smith (2-for-5, 2 RBI) drove in Ron McMillan from second
base with the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh
inning as the University of Mobile (19-24) rallied from a one run deficit
to salvage the final game of a three game series and avoided a sweep
at the hands of sixth-ranked William Carey College with a 5-4 victory
Saturday afternoon in Mobile, Ala.
Chris
Copeland (2-5) picked up the win in relief getting the final two outs
in the top of the seventh allowing just one hit and striking out one.
Leland
Howard started the game and carried a 4-3 lead into the top of the
seventh inning before the visiting Crusaders rallied for two runs in
the top of the seventh inning forcing Howard from the game.
Howard
pitched 6 1/3 allowing four runs on six hits and striking out eight
batters.
Trailing
4-3, pinch hitter Paul Kerger blasted a solo home run over the right
field fence to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning.
After
McMillan reached on a walk, Josh Banashak bunted McMillan over to second
base setting up Smith’s game-winning hit.
In the
first game of the day, William Carey jumped all over Mobile for six
runs in the top of the second inning and never looked back.
Carey
pounded out 18 hits and scored fifteen runs while the Rams committed
five errors in the Crusaders 15-10 win.
Danny
Arroyo, who started the game for Mobile, couldn’t make through the
second inning as he was touched up for five runs (four earned) on five
hits in one inning of work.
In the
loss Mobile was lead by Carnell Parker who was 2-for-4 from the plate
with a triple and two RBI. J.C. Santana collected three hits
including a triple in the opener, scored one run and drove in another.
William
Carey wins the season series 4-2 having already taken two of three
back in March.
The Rams
will finish out their regular season next weekend with a three game
series at cross-town rival Spring Hill College with the series set
to begin next Friday, April 30, at Spring Hill College. |
