Rams
sweep season series with Badgers
MOBILE,
Ala. -- The University of Mobile baseball team took two games from
Spring Hill College on Saturday sweeping the season series by winning
the opener 4-2 and the nightcap 6-1 to improve to 5-0 on the season
against their cross-town rival.
Friday
night’s game was cancelled due to rain and will not be made up.
After
falling behind 2-0 in the first inning in the opener, Mobile struck
right back by scoring three runs in the top of the second inning to
take the lead 3-2. With the bases loaded and only one run in,
Ricky Smith singled to left field scoring Jud McWain and Ron McMillan
from second base.
Mobile
tacked on one more run in the top of the seventh and starting pitcher
John Price nearly picked up the complete game win, pitching 6 2/3 innings
allowing just two runs on six hits and striking out two.
With
two outs and the bases loaded, McMillan relieved Price and got the
final out earning the save.
In the
nightcap, the Rams jumped on the Badgers early scoring three runs in
the top of the first inning. Ricardo Rolle doubled in two runs
and Raul Santana knocked in another.
The Rams
combined to use four pitchers in shutting down the Badgers. Santana,
who had an RBI single in the first inning added another hit and two
more RBI in the game upping his average to .400 on the season.
Mobile
improves to 21-24 on the season and will next be in action on Wednesday,
May 5 in the first round of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament
held in Hattiesburg, Miss.
