Rams splits with William Carey in season series finale

MOBILE, Ala. -- The University of Mobile baseball team split a pair of games with William Carey College in the team's regular season series finale Sunday afternoon at home. Mobile won the first game 9-6 behind a strong pitching performance from starting pitcher Beau Wiggins but the Rams dropped game two, 6-5.

With the win in game one, the Rams clinch second place in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference regular season standings and will be the second seed in next week's GCAC Tournament held in Jackson, Mississippi.

In the opener, the Rams raced out to a 9-2 lead early in the game behind a strong hitting performance from the Rams' lineup. Leadoff batter Carnell Parker was 1-for-4 in the game but stole four bases as he broke the school's all-time single season stolen base record as he currently has 57 on the season.

Senior Ron McMillan, playing in his final home game of his Mobile career, chippe in by going 3-for-4 from the plate with two RBIs. Eddie Davila and Lance Howard each went 2-for-3 from the plate.

Relief pitcher Chris Copeland, who broke the school record for most appearances in a season today against William Carey, got the save.

Mobile, by virtue of a win over William Carey on Sunday, will be the number two seed in next week's GCAC Tournament. The Rams will again square off against William Carey College on Wednesday, May 3 at 6 p.m. in game three of the GCAC Tournament.
