Rams splits with William Carey in season series finale
MOBILE, Ala. -- The University of Mobile baseball team
split a pair of games with William Carey College in the team's regular
season series finale Sunday afternoon at home. Mobile won the first
game 9-6 behind a strong pitching performance from starting pitcher
Beau Wiggins but the Rams dropped game two, 6-5. With the win in game
one, the Rams clinch second place in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference
regular season standings and will be the
second seed in next week's GCAC Tournament held in Jackson, Mississippi.
In
the opener, the Rams raced out to a 9-2 lead early in the game
behind a strong hitting performance from the Rams' lineup. Leadoff
batter
Carnell Parker was 1-for-4 in the game but stole four bases as
he broke the school's all-time single season stolen base record as
he
currently has 57 on the season.
Senior Ron McMillan, playing in his
final home game of his Mobile career, chippe in by going 3-for-4
from the plate with two RBIs. Eddie
Davila
and Lance Howard each went 2-for-3 from the plate.
Relief pitcher
Chris Copeland, who broke the school record for most appearances
in a season today against William Carey, got the save.
Mobile,
by virtue of a win over William Carey on Sunday, will be the number
two seed in next week's GCAC Tournament. The Rams will again
square off against William Carey College on Wednesday, May 3 at
6 p.m. in game three of the GCAC Tournament.
