Barber Named to Region XIII Team
JACKSON, Miss-- The All-Region XIII Baseball Team was recently announced and Brett Barber was the lone representative from the University of Mobile.
Barber got the nod as the squad's DH, after finishing with the Rams' 2nd highest average and on base percentage, while leading in doubles. The Junior posted a .383 average and reached base at a .448 clip, while collecting 18 doubles and scoring a team-high 59 runs.
UM Baseball Players Honored
MOBILE, Ala—The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference announced the 2007 GCAC All-Conference baseball team and the GCAC Rawlings Gold Glove Team (below) Tuesday night.
The honorary squad is led by regular season champ Belhaven, with 8 of the 17 members and the coach and player of the year. Thomas Royals won the Player of the Year honors, leading the GCAC in batting average and RBI’s, while also doing the job on the mound with a league-leading 1.95 ERA and 65 strike outs in 60 innings on the mound.
The University of Mobile and Spring Hill College combined to place 4 players on the squad. Freshman outfielder Ryan Hall earned the Badgers’ lone nod, while Sophomore outfielder Carlos Romero, Junior pitcher Briggs Bishop and Daphne, AL’s Brett Barber were recognized from the Rams.
Barber served as the Rams designated hitter for the vast majority of the games, and held true to the job description, placing 3rd in conference with a stellar .389 batting average. Bishop, a righty out of Thomasville, AL placed 2nd in the GCAC with a 2.05 ERA to lead the Rams’ pitching staff. Romero has provided some pop for the Mobile baseball team, placing 3rd in conference with 7 homers and posting a .548 Slugging Percentage, to rank 4th in conference action.
Hall posted a .333 average for the Badgers and crossed home 43 times in 50 games of action on the season.
All the honorees will get to show off their skills at the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament which begins play Wednesday, May 2 and lasts through Saturday, May 5th. Mobile and Spring Hill are hosting the event and all games will be played at the Badgers’ Stan Galle Field.

GCAC Rawlings Gold Glove Team
MOBILE, Ala—The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference announced the Rawlings Gold Glove Team Tuesday night and Spring Hill was well-represented.
Despite entering the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament as the #6 seed, the Spring Hill College Badgers placed 3 honorees on the team of 9.
Ricky Havens at first base, Tom Connors at 2nd base and Ryan Hall as the left fielder, were the 3 members from the Badgers selected. Regular Season Champion Belhaven College placed four on the team: Ricky Owens (3rd base), David Gilbert (Short Stop), Shawn Anderson (Center Field) and Buddy Wyrick (Catcher).
