Rams fall in pitching duel to William Carey, 2-0
JACKSON,
Miss. -- The University of Mobile baseball team (35-22) fell to William
Carey College 2-0 in ten innings Wednesday night in the first
round of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament in Jackson,
Mississippi.
William Carey got a pair of RBI singles in the top of the tenth inning
to break open a scoreless tie and the Crusaders held off a late Mobile
rally to perserve the victory.
Down 2-0 heading into the bottom of the tenth inning, Mobile got runners
to first and second base with two outs but a harmless fly ball to center
field ended the Rams chance at a comeback.
Simon Badeaux started the game for the Rams and went the first 7.1 innings
of the game before giving way to relief pitcher Chris Copeland. Copeland,
who took the loss, went the next two innings in relief but was tagged
for both runs in the tenth inning.
The Rams managed just three total hits in the game and were held to
just one hit through the first nine innings.
Kyle Keeton went all 10 innings for the Crusaders allowing just three
hits and two base on balls while striking out 10 to get the win.
Mobile will return to action tomorrow, Thursday, May 5 when they face
Spring Hill College at 2:30 p.m.
