UM players selected to the Baseball All-Conference Team
HATTIESBURG,
Miss. -- The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference announced their 2004 Baseball
All-Conference team on Wednesday and three players from the University
of Mobile were named to the team.
Topping
the list was UM first baseman Raul Santana. Santana, a senior,
is no stranger to post-season awards having been selected to the All-Conference
and All-Region Teams last year as well as being selected as an Honorable
Mention All-American.
Santana
matched his batting average from 2003 this year by again hitting for
a .400 average. Santana played and started in all 45 regular
season games, hitting four home runs and driving in a team-high 44
RBI.
Senior
Ricardo Rolle, who was selected to the team as a utility infielder,
was second on the team in batting average at .373. Rolle also
played and started in all 45 regular season games, smashing 13 doubles,
driving in 38 RBI and successfully stealing 12 bases in 12 attempts.
Finally,
junior John Price was selected as one of three starting pitchers to
the All-Conference Team. Price compiled an 8-2 record in 13 starts
while surrendering just a 2.78 ERA. Price struck out 38 batters
in 81 innings and threw two complete games.
The University
of Mobile (21-24) who completed their regular season last weekend by
sweeping Spring Hill College in a rain shortened two game series, will
begin the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament this afternoon
in Hattiesburg, Miss., against Belhaven College at 3:30 p.m.
