Rams blank Spring Hill 8-0

JACKSON, Miss. -- The University of Mobile baseball team (36-22) rebounded from last night's 2-0 loss to William Carey College with a 8-0 shutout of Spring Hill College in the second round of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament in Jackson, Mississippi.

Ron McMillan got things going early on by hitting a solo home run to left center field in the top of the second inning to give Mobile a 1-0 lead.

Just one inning later, Mobile tacked on three more runs to take a commanding 4-0 lead. With the bases loaded and only one out, first baseman Lance Howard singled to center field scoring Josh Banashak and pinch runner T.J. Esfeller on the play. Next, Nate Thomasdrove in shortstop Eddie Davila with an RBI single of his own putting the Rams ahead 4-0.

In the top of the fourth, Mobile added four more runs putting the game out of reach as they extended their lead to 8-0. The Rams batted around in the inning getting an RBI single from Carnell Parker, a two RBI double from Davila and an RBI single from Howard.

For the game, the Rams got two base hits from Howard to go along with his three RBIs and three more hits from Davila to go along with his two RBIs.

Beau Wiggins improved to 5-5 on the season by scattering four base hits over seven innings and not allowing a run. Wiggins walked four batters and struck out five.

The Rams advance on to play no. 1 seed LSU-Shreveport tomorrow, Friday, May 6 at 2:30 p.m.
