Rams
knock off top seeded William Carey College, 3-2
HATTIESBURG,
Miss. -- Facing the host and no. 1-seeded, William Carey College, the
University of Mobile (22-25) staved off elimination for at least one
more day winning a thrilling 3-2 game on Thursday afternoon in the
second round of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament played
in Hattiesburg, Miss.
Ricardo
Rolle’s bases loaded RBI groundout in the top of the eighth inning
provided the winning run as the Rams will move on to face Loyola University
tomorrow, Friday, May 7 again at 3:30 p.m.
Loyola,
who dropped their opener to LSU-Shreveport 9-3, rebounded with a 3-2
win over Spring Hill College yesterday, knocking the Badgers out of
the tournament. So far, only the Badgers have been eliminated
from the six team tournament.
Leland
Howard (6-3) picked up the win for Mobile, allowing seven hits and
two runs in eight innings of work. Ron McMillan pitched a scoreless
inning in relief to earn the save.
In tomorrow’s
action, the William Carey (1-1) will play LSU-Shreveport (1-1) in an
elimination game at 12:00 p.m. Following that game, Mobile (1-1)
will play Loyola (1-1) in another elimination game. Belhaven
College (2-0) the only undefeated remaining in the tournament, will
then play the William Carey/LSU-Shreveport winner at 7:00 p.m.
Saturday’s
games will be scheduled following Friday’s action. |
