McMillan's two-run homer lifts Rams to Region XIII
Tournament win
SHREVEPORT, La. -- The no. 4-seeded University of Mobile baseball
team won their NAIA Region XIII Tournament opener over no. 5-seeded
Georgia Southwestern 11-9 in come-from-behind fashion Tuesday afternoon
at the Region XIII Tournament in Shreveport, Louisiana.
The Rams (38-23) broke a 9-9 tie in the seventh inning by scoring
two runs on a Ron McMillan two-run homer. McMillan led all Rams’ hitters
by going 4-for-5 from the plate with a home run and four RBIs and Lance
Howard chipped in by going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Mobile trailed 4-0 after two innings but rallied for six runs in the
top of the third inning to take a 6-4 lead. Leland Howard picked up
the win in relief and McMillan came on in the ninth inning to pick
up the save.
Mobile will meet no. 8-seeded Berry College tomorrow, Wednesday, May
11, at 2:30 p.m. in the second round of tournament after Berry’s
3-1 upset victory over top-seeded North Georgia College in the first
round.
The tournament, which runs through Saturday, features eight teams
made up from the Southern States Athletic Conference and the Gulf Coast
Athletic Conference and is a double elimination format.
