Rams falls to Lee, 6-3 in Region XIII Tournament

SHREVEPORT, La. -- The University of Mobile baseball
team (39-24) dropped their first game of the Region XIII Tournament
after falling 6-3 to Lee University Thursday night in Shreveport, Louisiana.
The game, which was delayed nearly three hours last night
due to having to play the third game of a scheduled tripleheader,
began just before 10 p.m. CST time and ended just after 1 a.m. The
Rams now must turn around less than 12 hours later and face LSU-Shreveport
in an elimination game this afternoon at 12 p.m. noon.
The Rams got off to a good start by taking a 1-0 lead
in the bottom of the first inning. Carnell Parker led off the
game with a walk and advaned to second base on a passed ball. Josh
Banashak moved Parker to third base with a sacrifice fly and Parker
eventually scored on a J.C. Santana ground out.
Mobile would take a 1-0 lead into the fifth inning when
the Flames scored two runs to take a 2-1 lead. Lee added three
more runs in the seventh and another in the eighth to take a 6-1 lead. Mobile
would get two runs back in the bottom of the eighth inning but could
not complete the comeback as the Rams would fall 6-3.
Starting pitcher Jason Regan was credited with the loss
after pitching seven complete innings and allowing five earned runs
on seven hits. Regan walked fived and struck out seven. Relief
pitcher Chris Copeland pitched the eighth inning allowing one run and
John Kalb pitched a perfect ninth.
The Rams must now face LSU-Shreveport in an elimination
game as a result of the Pilots 14-13 win over North Georgia in 11 innings. The
game lasted four and a half hours and resulted in the delay of the
final two games of the day.
