Rams season ends with 6-4 loss to LSU-Shreveport
SHREVEPORT, La. -- The University of Mobile baseball
team (39-25) ended their season with a 6-4 loss to Region XIII Tournament
host LSU-Shreveport on Friday afternoon in Shreveport, Louisiana.
As a result, Mobile's season ends at 39-25. LSU-Shreveport
moves on to the 7 p.m. game tonight against either Lee University or
Auburn University Montgomery.
The Rams who finished last night's
game a little past 1 a.m. this morning, were forced to turn around
less than
12 hours
later to face LSU-Shreveport.
LSU-Shreveport senior pitcher Derek Cunningham
came
on in relief of starter Mitch Jones with two outs in the fourth inning
and allowed only one run the remainder of the way to secure the win.
In the top of the first inning, the Pilots scored when junior designated
hitter Jeremie Chabot hit a single, advanced to second on a stolen
base and to third on a throwing error,
then went across the plate on a single by junior right fielder Chris
Frye to give LSU-Shreveport the early 1-0 lead.
Mobile tied the game in the bottom of the third, and then took the
lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. LSU-Shreveport
tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the sixth when senior first baseman
Kyle
Mace,
who
was
replaced
by pinch-runner Bryan Cooksey, and sophomore shortstop Brandon Magierowski
walked, then scored on a single to left field by freshman third baseman
Steffan Primeaux.
The pilots scored three more runs with two outs in the top of the
seventh as Chabot, Frye and Mace crossed the plate.
