Rams Sign Local Stars
MOBILE, Ala—Four local products have signed with the University of Mobile baseball team for the 2010 season. Mary G. Montgomery’s Justin Beck, Cottage Hill Academy’s Travis Bowen, Lurleen B. Wallace product T.J. Parks and Holmes Community College product Cameron White all signed with the Rams.
Beck plays second base, while Bowen is a catcher.
“Beck has been a solid high school player that controls the bat well,” Mobile Head Coach Mike Jacobs said. “He should help the Rams for the next four years.”
“Making the transition from high school to the college game as a catcher is a tough task, but we feel that Bowen came come in and learn from our current catcher Nick Laico for a year, and be a solid contributor over his next three years with us,” Jacobs said.
Parks, who prepped at Mary G. Montgomery, batted .355 with 61 runs scored, 14 doubles and 13 home runs last season at Lurleen B. Wallace. The outfielder/third baseman also slugged .692, posted a .451 on-base percentage and stole 16 bases in only 18 attempts.
White comes in as a hitter and pitcher, and should help Mobile as a starting pitcher and shortstop. On the mound, the former Citronelle HS standout racked up a 6-2 record and fanned 35 in 47.2 innings of work. At the plate, White hit .272 with eight doubles and 18 RBI.
