Rams Add Another Local Product

MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile baseball program announced the signing of Mobile native Nelson Curry for the 2008 baseball season.

Curry, who played his high school ball at Murphy, is transferring from Faulkner State Community College. While playing for the Sun Chiefs, the pitcher/outfielder put up outstanding offensive numbers, including placing in the Top-25 of the JUCO ranks in three offensive categories (batting average, hits per game and RBI per game).

In 56 games of action in 2007, Curry posted a .399 average with 81 hits in 203 at bats, and collected 48 RBIs and 12 extra base hits. He also showed some nice speed, swiping 19 bases in 24 attempts.

Rams’ Assistant Coach Jon Seymour likes the versatility that Curry will bring to the ball club.

“Nelson is a versatile player who will be a valuable contributor on offense and on the mound,” Seymour said. “Overall he’s very athletic and provides excellent speed.”
