University of Mobile baseball announces
2004-05 recruiting class
MOBILE, Ala. -- The University of Mobile baseball team announced their
2004-05 recruiting class on Friday which includes Matthew Creighton
of Stone Wall, Miss., who was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in
the 28th round coming out of high school in 2003.
Creighton, who played last season with Meridian Community College,
posted a 4-0 record in 12 appearances last season, striking out 65
batters and allowing just 28 walks.
Justin Rosen, a transfer from St. Louis Community College at Meramec,
hit .366 last season in 175 at bats, pounding eight home runs and driving
in 42 RBI. Rosen also stole 20 bases and hit 13 doubles.
Simon Baduaux and Jesse Luker of Thomasville, Ala., both left-handers,
have also been signed and will come into next season looking to help
tighten up the Rams bullpen.
Bryan Mosley, a second baseman that played at Daphne High School,
and Michael Koppersmith, a right-handed relief pitcher will also come
to Mobile after transferring in from Lurleen B. Wallace State Junior
College. LBWCC played in last year’s Division II Junior College
National Championship Game.
Finally, Grant Staniszewski from Chesterfield, Mo, Daniel Harper from
Monroeville, Ala., and Vicente Perez from Ponce, PR, all catchers,
have been added to next year’s team to replace seniors Paul Kerger
and Seth Naugle behind the plate.
Last season, the Rams recovered from a 2-14 start last season to finish
at 23-26 overall. Head coach Mike Jacobs needs just five wins next
season to reach 500 career wins.
