Rams Baseball Fills out Recruiting Class of 17

MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile is proud to announce eight new signees for the 2007-08 baseball team.

Headlining the latest group of signees is Satsuma High School graduate Kevin Orso. Orso spent two seasons at Alabama Southern Community College and earned 1st Team Alabama Community College Conference honors and NJCAA Player of the Week honors on April 18th.

The outfielder posted a .784 slugging percentage, .439 batting average, and belted 24 doubles and 11 home runs last season.

Other position players joining Orso at Mobile are Eric Bird, a utility player from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, 3rd baseman James Knight out of Robertsdale High School, and Pace High School’s Travis Jones.

The Rams also added 4 right-handed pitchers to their class, including Scott Mitchell, who previously attended South Alabama and William Carey University. Randall Ethridge also comes to Mobile after a year at South Alabama.

Joining the two on the Rams’ staff are Cintronelle High School graduate Ira Turner and Baker High School alum Matt Brown.

Derek Bourgeois, a SS/RHP out of Bursley, LA

David Cramblitt, a Utility player from Theodore High School and Alabama Southern
                           - hit .402 and had 50 RBI’s at Alabama Southern

Matthew Sparks, a C out of Thomasville High School and Bishop State C.C
                           - posted a .324 average for Bishop State

Cliff Downey, a C out of Satsuma High School, Faulkner State and West Florida Univ
                            - hit .293 in 99 AB’s in 2006 for Faulkner State

Stephen Stork, a SS/RHP from Alma Bryant High School and Faulkner State
                            - hit .385 with 12 doubles and 45 runs scored for the Sun Chiefs

Nelson Curry, a OF/RHP from Murphy High School and Faulkner State
                             - hit .399 in 203 at-bats, stole 19 bases and drove in 48 runs in 2006

Kit Powell, a RHP from Daphne High School, Faulkner State and West Florida
                            - went 3-2 for West Florida and fanned 47 batters in 50.1 innings

Brad Sheffield, a 2B from Satsuma High School and Faulkner University

Robert Worrell, a C from Hattiesburg High School
