Rams Extend Unblemished Home Record With Win Over William Carey

MOBILE, Ala. – The Rams overcame a poor shooting performance by forcing 28 turnovers en route to defeating William Carey College (5-11, 1-1) 69-55 Saturday night at the Pharr. The win improves the UM men’s record to 13-3, 2-0 in conference action and a perfect 11-0 at home.

Holding a sizeable 41-24 lead at the halfway point, the Rams invited the Crusaders back into the game as they shot 36 percent from the field. Offsetting the lack of offensive production however was the outstanding defensive play of the Rams as they pocketed 15 steals.

While the Rams could feel the Crusaders breathing down their neck with 7:21 to play as William Carey closed to 55-51, UM outscored their opponent 14-4 down the stretch to stave off the late attack.

Rams’ center, Gimel Lewis, led with 22 points while Tramaine Perry’s 13 and Gabe Feagin’s 12 rounded Mobile players scoring in double figures.

William Carey was led by Anthony Barnes’ 21 points.

UM hits the road for the next game as they square off against Loyola University on Monday, Jan. 10, at 7:30 p.m.
