Mobile Men Continue to Roll With Big First Half
MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team stayed undefeated in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action with a 84-69 win over visiting Southern University at New Orleans Saturday evening.
The Rams, playing their first conference game at home, used an explosive first half to build an insurmountable lead and held on in the second half.
In that first half, the Rams went on an impressive 35-9 run in the first 11:48 of the opening frame to stun SUNO. The Rams out shot the visitors 64% to 32% in the opening frame and went into intermission with a 51-24 lead.
The second half was a different story, as SUNO improved its shooting percentage to 42% and knocked down 4 three-pointers to outscore the Rams. But, the 27-point half-time lead was enough for Mobile to hang on.
Steve Pellan led the Rams with a 23 points, 13 rebound effort, Walter Fitzgerald hit 7-of-11 shots to add 17 points, Robert Jones pitched in 15 points, and Derrell Moreaux rounded out the double-digit scoring with a 12-point effort.
The Rams move to 9-5 overall and 4-0 in conference. Next up for Mobile is another conference game at Xavier University Thursday, January 17th at 7:30 pm.
