Rams Move to 9-2 in Conference Action
MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team used a strong defensive effort to take down Dillard University 69-55.
The first half of action was a low-scoring battle, with the two teams tied at 14 apiece with 7:00 minutes left until Marcus Yeager hit a 3-pointer seconds later to give the Rams a 17-14 edge. From there, the teams battled to a 21-20 score with 5:02 left, and Mobile went on a 12-4 run to end the half up by 9, 33-24.
In the half, the Rams picked up 13 steals and forced 18 Dillard turnovers to overcome only shooting 38% from the floor. Robert Jones racked up 12 points, 6 rebounds and 7 steals in the period.
The second half of play saw the Rams' defense clamp down even tighter on the visitors and hold the Blue Devils to 30% shooting from the field. On offense, the Rams picked up the pace and shot 50%.
Jones finished with 15 points, 12 rebounds and 9 steals, while Steve Pellan added 15 points to the Mobile cause. Walter Fitzgerald chipped in 14 points for the Rams.
Mobile moves to 14-7 overall and 9-2 in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action. The Rams host William Carey University Saturday, Feb. 9th at 7:00 pm. |
