Mobile Survives 35 points from Maravich, Prevail
in Overtime 90-86
MOBILE, Ala -- Jaeson Maravich,
son of the late “Pistol” Pete Maravich, scored 35 points, but it was the
one point he didn’t score that may come back to haunt him as the
University of Mobile (20-8, 10-4) rallied from an 13 point second half
deficit and forced overtime where they eventually won 90-86 Saturday night
at home in Pharr Gymnasium.
With 25 seconds remaining,
Gimel Lewis’ alley-oop slam dunk from Gabe Feagin gave Mobile just their
second lead of the half at 80-78.
However, Maravich drove the
length of the court and drew a foul on Feagin and his desperation heave
was interfered with by Mobile drawing a goaltending call that tied the
game at 80-80 with just 17 seconds to play.
With the game on the line,
Maravich missed what would have been the game-winning free throw and the
game headed into overtime.
In overtime, Mobile put the
clamps on Maravich and held him scoreless as they captured their tenth
conference win of the year and their twentieth overall.
Tramaine Perry led Mobile with
23 points and Gimel Lewis posted a double-double with 14 points and 14
rebounds.
The Crusaders fall to 14-13
overall and 8-5 in conference play.
Mobile will next be in action
on Monday, February 16, when the Rams host GCAC conference leader Xavier
University at 7:30 p.m.
