Second Half Sends Mobile To Victory

MOBILE, Ala— The University of Mobile men's basketball team shot a blistering 83% from the field in the second half to run by visiting LSU-Shreveport 86-71 Thursday evening.

The Pilots entered the game in 2nd place in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, while the Rams entered in 8th place, but Mobile dominated the final period. Donte Walker led Mobile (14-12, 6-9) with 19 points and 6 assists, Treii Pace added 18 points, Sasa Lazic chipped in 14 and Brock Dockery added 11 points for the Rams.

Derrick Parker led the Pilots (17-10, 10-5) with 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor. Tyrone Hamilton added 10 points for the visitors.

The opening half saw the teams exchange leads until the Pilots went into the break holding on to a 31-30 advantage. In the half, LSUS shot 53%, while Mobile was held to 43% from the floor and 33% from the charity stripe.

The second half was a completely different story as the Rams hit 19-of-23 shots from the field and 14-of-18 from the free throw line, while LSUS was limited to 40% from the floor.

In the first 8:20 of the final half, neither team could pull away by more than 3 and the teams found themselves locked up at 48-48. From there, Mobile used an 18-8 run, capped by a bucket from Lazic to go up 66-56. From that point on, Mobile knocked down 10-of-12 from the free throw line to pull away for the victory.

The Rams host Xavier University Saturday, Feb. 21 at 7 pm.
