#22 Rams Win 6th Straight Game
The University of Mobile men's basketball overcame a poor opening half to take down Belhaven College 72-66 in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action Saturday evening.
Belhaven outrebounded Mobile 27-12 and held the Rams to 30% shooting in the opening frame to head into the break with a 36-22 edge. The Rams did not record their 10th point until 14 minutes had run off the clock.
Robert Jones scored 40 points against the Blazers earlier this season, but was held to 4 points in the opening half of this game. Then, Jones turned it on and dropped in 26 points in the final period to carry the Rams to the comeback victory.
Belhaven held on to a 9 point lead for the first 11:30 of play in the half, but the Rams went on a 16-7 run to tie the game at 64-64 when Jones got a steal and feed Marcus Yeager for a three-pointer.
Jones then gave the Rams the lead for good with a pair of free throws at the 53 second mark to go up 68-66. The junior then grabbed a pair of late boards and got a late steal to cement the win and move the Rams to 21-8 on the season. Yeager added 12 points in the game.
22nd-ranked Mobile is the #2 seed in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament that begins March 3rd. The Rams will have a bye on that date and then host a game at 7:00 pm on March 5th.
