MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team took down William Carey University 78-63 in first round action of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Tuesday.
Mobile (15-15) got a season-high 24 points from true freshman Brock Dockery and out shot the visiting Crusaders 51% to 38% from the field. Lelund LeDay added 13 points for Mobile, Treii Pace chipped in 11 and Donte Walker finished with 10. Marcus Spann led the Crusaders with 21 points.
Dockery finished the game 8-of-15 from the floor and 5-of-8 from behind the three point line.
The Rams led only 34-33 at intermission, but shot 55% in the final half, while holding the Crusaders to 30% from the field and 0-for-10 from three-point range. Mobile hit 18-of-20 free throws in the final half to close out the game. Mobile started the final half with a 15-4 run to take a 49-37 lead when Brock Dockery sank a three ball with 14:18 left to play.
William Carey trimmed the lead to 51-44, but the Rams ran away with an 18-5 run to take their largest lead of the game, 69-49, with 4:14 left.
Mobile visits top seed Tougaloo College Thursday at 7 pm in Jackson, MS.
