Rams Honored by GCAC

MOBILE, Ala-- The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference released the 2008 Men's Basketball All-Conference Team and awards Tuesday, and the University of Mobile men's basketball team was well-represented.

Donte Walker was named the 2008 GCAC Freshman of the Year, marking the second straight year a Ram earned the award. Robert Jones and Walter Fitzgerald rounded out the honors, being named to the All-Conference Team.

Walker averages 6.5 points and 3.5 boards per game while shooting 45% from the floor. The freshman from Lake Charles, Louisiana has scored 10+ points seven times and played over 20 minutes in 22 of the team's 29 games.

Jones, meanwhile has been one of the leaders all season for the Rams. The Fort Pierce, Florida native averages 19 points and 8 rebounds per game and has recorded 4 double-doubles. Jones was named NAIA National Player of the Week for his efforts earlier this season.

Fitzgerald, a senior who joined the 1,000 point club earlier this season, averages 14.4 points and 3 assists per contest while shooting 51% from the floor. The Killeen, Texas native has scored double figures in all but 7 games on the season and surpassed the 20-point plateau 6 times.

The Rams next play Wednesday night at home versus William Carey in a GCAC Tournament Quarterfinal game at 7:00 pm.
