Perry and Gimel Lewis honored with post-season awards
MOBILE, Ala. -- Two days after taking their team to
the semi-final round of the NAIA Division I National Basketball
Tournament, Mobile junior’s Tramaine Perry and Gimel Lewis were named to
the All-Tournament team and Perry was selected as a Third-Team
All-American the NAIA national office announced on Thursday.
Perry, a native of Hammond, La., averaged 15.1 points
per game while grabbing 6.4 rebounds a contest in helping lead the Rams to
a regular season co-championship and an outright Gulf Coast Athletic
Conference Tournament championship.
At the national tournament, Perry stepped his game up
and tied for fifth place in overall scoring at 17.3 points per game.
A solid defender all season, Lewis led all players in
the tournament in blocked shots with 12 and finished fifth overall in
rebounds at 8.5 per game.
Lewis, who shattered his own individual record for
blocks in a season of 53, finished the 2003-04 year with 90.
Other Gulf Coast Athletic Conference players
receiving All-American honors were Southern University-New Orleans’
Roberto Ferriar (First-Team), William Carey’s Jaeson Maravich (First-Team)
and Dillard University’s Alfredo Ott (Third Team).
