Rams Add To Backcourt
The University of Mobile men’s basketball team took a step towards restoring its depth in the backcourt by inking St. Louis Catholic High School product Lelund Leday for the 2008-09 season.
Leday, a 6-foot point guard out of Lake Charles, La, put up impressive numbers, averaging a double-double of 13 points and 11 assists per ball game. Leday and his teammates went a 35-5 last season and were ranked #1 in 3A.
“With the loss of all-conference guard Walter Fitzgerald and PG Derrell Moreaux entering his senior year, we need to build depth in our backcourt,” Rams’ Head Coach Joe Niland said. “Signing a player of Lelund’s caliber means we are moving in the right direction.”
Hailing from the same school as the Rams’ GCAC Freshman of the Year Donte Walker, Leday was tabbed 1st-Team All-State and All-District. Under the tutelage of Head Coach Butch Zigler, the point guard was also named 1st-Team All-Southwest Louisiana.
Niland, who guided the Rams to the NAIA Men’s Basketball National Tournament last season for the team’s 9th trip in 21 years of competition, said he expects to sign at least five more players.
