MOBILE, Ala. -- Robert Jones has signed to play basketball next season for head coach Joe Niland and the University of Mobile basketball team the school announced on Monday.

Jones is a 6-5, forward from Westwood High School in Fort Pierce, Florida. At Westwood High School, Jones was a 5-A Second-Team All-State selection where he averaged 15 points and eight rebounds per game. Jones led his team to a 24-7 season in 2004-05 and a sectional championship. Jones was also named to the All-Palm Beach Post First-Team.

“Robert is an outstanding athlete that was recruited as a major football prospect,” UM head coach Joe Niland said. “He has a great feel for the game and will be able to come in and compete right away. In addition to being a great athlete, he is also a honor student.”

Jones is the fourth player to sign this off-season to play basketball next season at the University of Mobile joining Derrell Moreaux, Jr., of Washington-Marion Magnet High School in Lake Charles, La., Clinton Thomas of Choctaw County High School in Butler, Ala., and Todd Bostic, a transfer from the University of New Orleans in New Orleans, Louisiana.
