Rams dispose of Reinhardt for 2-0 start

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile Rams swept the field at the UM Classic with a 73-53 victory over Reinhardt College.

One day after a barn-burner 94-89 victory over Montreat, Mobile struggled to a defensive 29-22 lead at the half. Thanks to improving its shooting percentage from 31% in the first half, to 62% in half number 2, Mobile went on a surge to pull away.

The increased shooting percentage was only one reason Mobile pulled away. They also enjoyed 15 more free throw attempts and made 9 more than Reinhardt. Mobile also did a good job of spreading the wealth.

The Rams got balanced scoring from their lineup, with 4 players in double-figures. Sophomore Robert Jones led all players with 17 points and added 6 rebounds. Junior College transfer Marcus Yeager and Walter Fitzgerald finished with 11 points apiece, and Fitzgerald added 5 points. Steve Pellan chipped in with 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks for Mobile.

Rams win opener in exciting fashion

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team capped off the first day of the UM Classic with an explosive come-from-behind victory over Montreat Friday night.

Both teams brought great shooting to the game and consistent scoring. Montreat shot 61% on the day, while the Rams finished with a 55% shooting mark from the field. When Mobile didn't hit their shots, they had an 18-7 advantage on the offensive boards to get second-chance points.

After playing to a 43-43 tie at intermission, Mobile put on a show that brought the fans to their feet late in the game. The Rams found themselves down 76-79 and looked out of it, but a couple of steals later and they were well on their way to a 18-7 run to take back the lead for good.

The excellent marksmanship from the field allowed 3 Rams to finish with 20+ points in the game. Walter Fitzgerald lead all scorers with 25 points on 9 of 12 shooting from the field. Sophomore Robert Jones and redshirt freshman Trey Rubin popped in 21 apiece and added a combined 16 rebounds. Steve Pellan chipped in for Mobile with 12 points and 9 rebounds.
