IN THRILLING FASHION, THE RAMS DEFEAT REINHARDT IN OT 67-66

Mobile, Ala. – The Rams (3-0) overcame a 12-point lead in regulation and a last moment scare to win 67-66 in overtime over the Reinhardt College Eagles. An exciting final game of the Wells Fargo UM Classic featured local players on both sides. Blount High School alumnus Deandre Cowan led the Eagles with 17 points while it was Baldwin County High School graduate Seluynn Palmer who nailed the 3-pointer for the Rams to send the game into overtime.

Holding a brief 4-0 lead to open the first half, the Rams were unable to keep the lead as Reinhardt’s Gathan White drained a free throw to put the Eagles up 6-5 with 15:45 remaining. The Eagles went on a 10-1 run to open up a 19-10 lead with 5:59 to go in the half. Out-rebounding the Rams 22-16, Reinhardt held Mobile to 32-percent on 8-of-25 shooting as they took a 27-21 halftime lead.

Early in the second half the Eagles went on a 6-0 run to open up a 39-29 lead with 16:55 remaining. With 10:49 remaining, Reinhardt drilled back-to-back 3-pointers to open their biggest lead of the game, 51-35. Just as it looked as if Mobile would succumb and give up their first loss of the season, the extra cylinders kicked in as the last ten minutes belonged to the Rams. With 9:29 to go in regulation Mobile went on a 25-9 run that found it’s climax with a Seluynn Palmer 3-pointer that sent the game into overtime.

In overtime the Rams held opened up as much as a 5-point lead. But with a minute remaining the Eagles began to mount a charge. Coming out of a time out, all that stood between a second overtime for the Eagles was 3 points and 7 seconds. Fouled by Chris Bolden while taking a game-tying 3-pointer, Mike Carson went to the line with the chance to send the game into overtime. Calmly hitting his first, a missed second sent the Pharr Gymnasium fans into a flurry and the Rams to a 3-0 start on the season.

The Rams were led by Gabriel Feagin (17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals), Larry Burgess (15 points) and Gimel Lewis (14 points and 8 rebounds)

In addition to Cowan’s 17 points, Reggie Taylor (13 points) and Mike Carson (10 points) also turned in solid performances for the Eagles.

The Rams will be in action Monday, Nov. 11, as they host Oakwood College at home.
