Perry's 20 lifts Mobile to win over Berry College
MOBILE, Ala. – The University of Mobile (4-1) held
off a resilient Berry College Vikings (4-2) team for a 79-66 win in the
second night of the Wells-Fargo Classic. The Rams shot an impressive
64 percent from the floor and nearly doubled the Vikings’ efforts
on the board, 15-8, to take a commanding 43-25 lead into the half and
never looked back.
Back-to-back three-pointers by Larry Burgess and Steve Pellan gave the
Rams a 14-9 edge nearly midway through the first half. Despite cutting
the gap to three, 14-11, on a Kirk Feinswog jumper, on Berry’s
next trip down the floor, the Vikings couldn’t stop an ensuing
11-2 run by Mobile.
Shooting 7-of-16 from behind the arc, the Rams dominated Berry from
both inside and out as the Vikings could only muster three of their own
in the first half.
The second half was academic for the Rams as they closed out a respectable
Vikings team that took nationally pre-season 8th-ranked Georgetown College
to overtime earlier this season.
Tramaine Perry led the Rams with 20 points. Larry Burgess, who went
5-of-7 from downtown, added 13 with Gabe Feagin getting 11 and Chris
Bolden 10. Berry was led by Cameron Fitch’s 23 points and Kirk
Feinswog’s 12.
Mobile will have their chance at revenge on Tuesday as they host Faulkner
University at 7:30 p.m. The Rams lost to Faulkner in their season opener,
82-65. The night will also be a special event night as the GMAC Bowl
will be sponsoring a halftime Family Feud Challenge in which a family
can compete for a VIP package and fans can get in for free if they bring
five canned goods to the game as the Salvation Army will also be partnering
with the Rams.
