MOBILE, Ala. – Gabriel Feagin scored 15
points and hit the game winning shot with 6 seconds left to lead
the University of Mobile men’s basketball team (6-3) in a 66-65
win over the 7th-ranked Faulkner University Eagles.
A close game for most of the first half,
the lead changed hands five times before Faulkner was finally
able to go on an 11-0 run with 9:12 remaining in the half.
Despite only shooting 39% from the floor during the first half,
the Rams out-scored the Eagles 14-8 in the last four minutes of
the half to head into the locker rooms down only 34-30.
Carried on the shoulders of Paul Little,
the 2001 NAIA National Tournament MVP, the Eagles opened up a
52-43 lead, their biggest of the second half. The Rams however
fought back and following a Larry Burgess layup with 7:47
remaining, Mobile took a 53-52 lead. The two teams exchanged
leads four more times setting up Feagin’s game winning jump shot
with 6 seconds left.
The Rams, who shot a spectacular 64
percent on 16-25 shooting from the floor in the second half, got
great performances from Larry Burgess (17 points with 4-of-5
from downtown), Gabriel Feagin (15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists
and 3 steals) and Gimel Lewis (11 points and 5 rebounds in his
first game back after being injured).
Paul Little’s 21 points led the Eagles
(3-2) with Ben Baxter getting 16 and Donta Frazier finishing
with 10.
