Mobile Downs Rochester 64-43

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team moved to 5-5 on the season by defeating Rochester College 64-43 Monday evening at home.

In the final tune-up before Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action begins on January 3rd, the Rams used an explosive first half and played solid defense throughout to pick up the win.

The opening period saw the Rams outshoot the Warriors 49% to 30% from the floor on their way to building a 44-23 lead at the break. Mobile's defense did its job in the half by forcing 14 Rochester turnovers to set up easy baskets.

The final frame of the ball game was a struggle for both teams, but Mobile was able to hold on. In the half, the Rams hit only 9 field goals, while Rochester struggled to an 8-for-25 shooting effort, as the Rams' defense clamped down and held the Warriors without a double-digit scorer in the game.

Mobile was led by Steve Pellan with 17 points, while Walter Fitzgerald chipped in an all-around effort with 16 points, 7 assists, and 8 rebounds. True freshman Donte Walker added 11 points for Mobile.

The Rams next play at William Carey University, January 3rd at 7:30 pm.
